Preoperative Instructions: IV Sedation Checklist
- You cannot have anything by mouth for 8 hours prior to surgery – absolutely no food, water, gum or candy.
- You must have a driver. If the patient is a minor, the driver needs to be a parent or grandparent.
- Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. You need to wear a short-sleeved shirt so both arms are accessible.
- If you need to pre-medicate, you can do so one hour prior to your appointment with just a sip (a tablespoon) of water.
