To enhance recovery following oral surgery or avoid the necessity for a bone graft, we use bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) at the surgical site. These proteins promote the regrowth of both tissue and bone.
What Are Blood Morphogenetic Proteins?
Bone morphogenetic proteins, commonly referred to as BMPs, are synthetic substances that can replace the need to harvest bone from another area of your body or utilize banked bone. These protein factors stimulate the development of new cartilage and bone. Since they are naturally produced in the body, BMPs are regarded as a safe alternative to traditional bone graft materials. When BMPs are incorporated into your treatment plan, a protein solution will be applied to a collagen sponge, which your oral surgeon will then position over the area requiring additional bone. As the BMP takes effect, the collagen sponge will dissolve, facilitating the formation of new bone in the targeted area.
